Day in the life of a Graphic Designer
Day in the life of a Graphic Designer
We are thrilled to introduce you to Jess, a dynamic member of our creative team, who plays a pivotal role in product development. The whole team has an input into our products from concept to final design, Jess is the creative force behind many of our innovative ideas, transforming them into beautiful keepsake gifts.
Recently Jess has been instrumental in redesigning our popular Bump to Birthday pregnancy journal. This project did not stop there; Jess also developed the illustrated children's storybook, Hopes & Wishes For You as part of this range of journals and books.
We sat down with Jess, to find out what a day in the life of a graphic designer is all about!
Jess, why did you pursue a career in the creative industry?
I never really enjoyed any subjects at school that had black and white, right or wrong answers. Art and design, always felt like the only career path that I could ever truly enjoy.
What does a day in the life of a graphic designer look like?
There is a lot of variety in my role, including photography, illustration, marketing, video production, and more. We have a lot of collaboration in the office, with regular team meetings and catch ups to share ideas and update each other on projects that we are working on.
We find this collaborative spirit essential to the creation of our award-winning gifts.
What's been your favourite product to work on?
My favourite product has been the top-secret gift that is launching in 2025, otherwise I really enjoyed working on the Bump to Birthday redesign and accompanying children's storybook - Hopes and Wishes For You. It was a big project, but I am really proud of how the range looks and how many mums to be love the pregnancy journal.
What does it mean to you, to know that the team's designs are a heartfelt keepsake for families?
It's nice to think that our products have more substance than a generic pretty notebook. I've always had more interest in designing for paper, over digital and creating tangible products that have such meaning to people and that are cherished for years.
In light of our brand new reading log just launching, what's your favourite book?
IT by Stephen King or Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. Anything spooky mostly
Do you have a favourite cuisine?
Impossible choice between Indian and Italian, but I’ll say Italian if that comes with a glass of wine on the side.
Finally, what is your favourite Christmas movie?
Muppets Christmas Carol, the only Christmas movie that truly matters!
